Our History

The Social Registry WB Annapurna Bhandar is a significant initiative supported by the World Bank and developed by the Government of West Bengal (GoWB). It forms a crucial part of the ‘Jai Bangla’ platform, which proactively identifies citizens eligible for various benefits. The registry leverages a “Trigger Management Platform” to reduce the need for individual applications, making it easier for citizens to access social programs.

Building on the Socio-Economic Census of 2011 as baseline data, the registry aims to cover all potential applicants across various programs. A notable application of this system is in the rollout of major schemes like the Annapurna Yojana (or Annapurna Bhandar), which provides ₹3,000 monthly to eligible women, and other social pensions. Beneficiaries can apply through the official West Bengal Social Security Portal and receive funds via Aadhaar-linked Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
